Sens. Charles Robb (D-VA) and Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) recently introduced Senate bill S. 3024, which calls for Medicare-covered glaucoma detection examinations every 2 years for high-risk individuals.

The legislation joins companion bill H.R. 2620, which was introduced in the House by Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL). The House bill is continuing to gain
co-sponsors.

The American Academy of Ophthalmolgy and Congressional backers want to see the bills' provisions included in the Medicare reform packages that will be considered in both chambers late this year.
