The Latest Data on Staff Salaries
Non-ophthalmologist personnel costs continue to be the highest expense item for most ophthalmology practices, often comprising more than 50% of total practice overhead. The 2006 Staff Salary Survey, just published by The Health Care Group, located in Plymouth Meeting, Pa., gives you hard data for comparing and structuring your staff's compensation. Below are the national averages for ophthalmology practices as reported in the 2006 Staff Salary Survey.
Note that staff averages are given on a per-hour basis while the Administrator/Executive Director, Assistant Manager, Business Manager and Office Manager averages are given on an annual salary basis.
About this data: The staff salary national averages in this installment of Stat Tracker were drawn from The Health Care Group's 2006 Staff Salary Survey. In the fourth quarter of 2005, questionnaires were mailed to more than 9,000 medical practices nationwide and 739 practices responded, including 130 ophthalmology practices. Those ophthalmology practices supplied 2,696 different staff salaries. The complete 2006 Staff Salary Survey, with more staff categories and additional results, is organized by staff position, geographic region and metropolitan statistical area.
