Johnson & Johnson announced in a press release that the company is expanding the US availability of its Tecnis PureSee IOL extended depth of focus (EDOF) presbyopia-correcting lens that is designed to support visual clarity and quality for patients undergoing cataract surgery.
According to Johnson & Johnson, Tecnis PureSee IOL is the first and only US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved EDOF IOL with no warning on loss of contrast sensitivity. The Tecnis PureSee IOL also provides excellent distance and intermediate vision with some near vision, a low level of bothersome visual symptoms, and excellent vision, day and night, the company said.
“With the full US availability of Tecnis PureSee IOL, we are expanding access to an important extended depth of focus option that reflects our commitment to innovation, visual quality, and patient satisfaction,” said Erin Powers, president, Surgical Vision, North America, Johnson & Johnson, in the press release. “Patients today want vision solutions that support how they live their lives every day. Tecnis PureSee IOL builds on the trusted Tecnis platform to help meet those expectations while giving surgeons greater flexibility to personalize care.”
The expanded US availability of Tecnis PureSee IOL comes during Cataract Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about this common and preventable cause of vision loss.
To further support patient education during Cataract Awareness Month, Johnson & Johnson said it is encouraging individuals to take a new patient lifestyle quiz designed to help them reflect on their daily activities, vision needs, and goals ahead of cataract surgery. Patients can use the quiz as a starting point for informed conversations with their eyecare professional about which IOL may be right for them, the company said.
