The Foundation Fighting Blindness has announced its 2025 Share Your Vision campaign as part of Blindness Awareness Month, which is observed each October. According to a press release, the initiative aims to increase awareness of vision loss, share authentic-lived experiences, and highlight ongoing advances in treatment and research for blinding retinal diseases.
Launched in 2021, the Share Your Vision campaign amplifies the voices of people who have vision loss, their families, caregivers, and researchers. The campaign serves as a reminder that blindness exists on a spectrum, and that breakthroughs in research have the potential to significantly improve independence, identity, and quality of life, according to a press release.
For 2025, the campaign will feature weekly themes throughout October:
- Week 1 – How I See the World: Exploring individual experiences of vision and perception
- Week 2 – How Vision Loss Feels: Focusing on the emotional impact, resilience, and identity aspects of vision loss
- Week 3 – What’s at Stake: Highlighting the significance of ongoing research and its potential clinical impact
- Week 4 – Raising Our Voices: Showcasing advocacy efforts and calls to action
- Week 5 – Breaking the Myths: Challenging misconceptions about blindness and vision loss
Additionally, the campaign communicates 4 core messages:
- Your Vision, Your Voice: Each experience with vision loss is unique.
- Blindness is a Spectrum: Vision impairment varies widely in presentation and impact.
- Hope Through Research: Advances in treatment and cures hold life-changing potential.
- Community Matters: Sharing experiences fosters inclusion and public awareness.
The press release also notes that the campaign will be supported by Foundation leadership and ambassadors, including Paralympic swimmer Anastasia Pagonis, content creator Eavan O’Neill, and advocate Lance Johnson, who will all share their experiences to broaden public understanding.
